MARTON
CARNIVAL COMMITTEE Presided over by the Mayor, Mr F. Purnell, the final meeting of the Christmas Carnival Committee was held last evening. The balance-sheet was read and adopted. It showed that the total amount collected was £4O 16s 3d, out of which £l2 12s 5d was passed for ’he payment of expenses. The balance of £2B 3s lOd will be handed over to ‘he council as payment towards the cost of street, lighting. Hearty votes cf thanks were «x tended to all who had assisted with the carnival.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES The following Marton candidates were successful in obtaining passes in the subjects indicated at the commercial proficiency examination, conducted by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce throughout New Zealand: Shorthand Theory: Gladys C. Smith. Book-keeping (junior): Margaret A. G. hound. Hand-writing: May Kintton and Alpha J. Smith.
