QUALITY OF SHOE LEATHER
Another cherished tradition is about to be upset in the explanation of why human feet indicate that a change of weather is due. It is not the feet, it is now stated, but the leather. It is known that poorly-tanned leather shrinks as the humidity increases before rain, so shoes are true prophets of wet weather. As the shoes shrink, they pinch the wearer’s feet. Dr. John Arthur Wilson, of Milwaukee, says that the sufferers who predict the approach of a storm because their feet hurt, would be denied this faculty if the leather in their shoes was properly treated. When persons suffer bodily fatigue, mental irritability or general discomfort without apparent cause, their shoes may be to blame. Dr. Wilson suggests that it would be wise in such cases, to investigate the properties of the leather in shoes.
