Victoria League. Owing to tire race meeting being held in the second week of the month, the members of the Victoria League Bridge Circle are holding their monthly gathering this week instead of next week. W.D.F.U. An address on 11 Eugenics” will be given by Mrs. Bogle, St. John’s Hill, at an afternoon to be held by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, in the Women’s Division rooms to-morrow, September 5, at 2.30. Afternoon tea will be served. Dance and Bridge. To augment the funds raised by several young people, who, each year arrange a function for the purpose of helping the Cecil Wray fund, a dance was held last week at the home of Mrs. Walter Stewart, Wieksteed Street, who kindly lent it for the occasion. The large number present spent an enjoyable evening. Ou the fallowing evening a ten-table bridge party was held at Mrs. Stewart’s home, the proceeds being devoted to the Cecil Wray fund. Talented Dancer. The principals of the Hughes-John-son-Hunter Dance Studio have every reason to be proud of their very young pupil Ida Matthews, who achieved such success at the Hawera competitions held recently. The Hawera Star states: “After the operatic dance the judge, Miss Daphne Knight, in her remarks said, ‘I do not know who’s pupil she is, or where she comes from, but I congratulate her teacher on the little girl’s wonderful work, so strictly carried out according to technique, combined with a natural grace and charm.’ ” Also in the character number, “Violets” Miss Knight said the work was wonderful, not only wonderful, it was divine and displayed much careful training and great talent. This little girl will undoubtedly have a future in the dancing world as she is working along the right lines.*
