REDUCTION IN FREIGHT SOUTH ISLAND TO AUCKLAND j [ Per Tress Association. I AUCKLAND, July 2. A reduction in the rate of freight | upon grain and produce from th<- South Island to Auckland, has been made by tho Union Steam Ship Company afrom July 1. The new rates re,>resent a saving to consignees of approximately 5 per cent., and arc the first alteration made to the company’s schedule in a long period of years. A flat rate of freight is charged on various commodities from the South Island, regardless of port of shipment. The new scale of freight ‘barges potatoes 24s 6d a ton, wheat 19s 61. oats 19s Gd, stock food 19s 6d, bran 235, pollard 2ts Gd, and onions 2Gs Gd. No change has been made in the charges upon general meivhandiso, the concession being one primarily to assist, the grain and produce trade.
