BRITAIN’S CATTLE TRADE
INFORMAL CONFERENCE. RESTRICTION OF SUPPLIES. LONDON, Junv 26The informal conference with Mr. S. M. Bruce and Sir James Parr is a step by the British Government toward finding a way to safeguard the interests of Home beef producers and check the fall in prices in the cattle trade. The agreement with Argentina provides that there will be no further reductions in supplies unless the Dominions similarly reduce. The Government is free after the expiry of the Ottawa Agreements to restrict supplies from the Dominions, but hopes a voluntary arrangement will be reached. It is believed that Britain ha.s already approached Argentina. Meanwhile the Council of the Central Chamber of Agriculture demands a subsidy of £8,500,000, equivalent to a penny a pound, until the expiry of the Argentina Agreements enables this to be produced by a levy on imports.
