KARIOI
PLAIN AND FANCY BALL. A plain and fancy dress ball, was held by the Karioi and Ngamatea branches of the Women’s Institute on Saturday June 23, in the Tvanoi Hall. The function proved an outstanding success, dancers coining from all surrounding districts to form what was probably one of the largest gatherings to be held in Karioi. The hall was effectively and tastefully decorated with greenery, and hung in streamers of the combined branches’ colours. The fancy dresses were numerous and varied, the grand parade presenting a most brilliant spectacle. The music of Air. J. Tauri’s “Midnight Serenadcrs” was of a very high standard, and had the dancers continually demanding encores. Following the parade, the committee, whoso untiring efforts contributed in no small measure to the success of the evening, served a tasty and enjoyaole supper. Airs. A. E. Ferry, president of the Ngamatea branch, then thanked all present for their splendid support, special thanks being tendered to Mr. W. Stevens, who gave free use of the hall. The winners of the fancy dress competition were Airs. A. Afalpas Victorian Lady; and Mr. H. Powell, Sultan. The spot waltz was* won by Aliss B. Harrison and Air. W.
