CAUGHT BY CONSTABLE
A RACING CYCLIST. WITHOUT LIGHTS OK BEU.. I Per Press Association. I CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 26. In the course of a successful career as a racing cyclist, William J. Lamberton has shaken off some of the best riders in New Zealand, but he was beaten by Constable Stewart in a short sprint a few nights ago. to-day Lamberton appeared in Court charged with cycling without lights, or having a bell, a reflector, or a white rear mudguard. He was 4irther charged with, obstruct tng the constable. fhe sub-inspector described it as a bad case by a persistent offenc er. He said that when Lamberton was challenged by the constable he attempted to get away, but he was chased by the constable on his cycle and caught about 150 yards down the road. He then gave a false name and address, and it was not until some time later when taken to the station that he gave his true name. Lamberton had appeared in Court many times and had sixteen convictions. Lamberton pleaded guilty, and fines tmounting to £2 15s were imposed.
