LAWN TENNIS TESTS

PLAY AT BRISBANE AUSTRALIA AND BRITAIN. Received Dec. 21, 11.30 p.m. BRISBANE, Dec. 21. Tennis Test results were:— Singles.—Moon beat Hughes, 4 —6, 7 —5, 6 —l. McGrath, beat Lee, 6 —4, 6 —3. Quist beat Wilde, 6—2, 6—2. Doubles. —Hopman and Moon beat Perry and Lee, B—6, 7— 9, 6 —4, o—6,0 —6, Moon’s victory.was due more to his attacking play. Hughes was wonderfully consistent and made many remarkable recoveries but was unable to cope with the severity of Moon’s game. McGrath opened slowly but once he got his game going he hit shots accurately to all parts of the court, varying his play more than Lee, [who was not as enterprising as the Australian and will be no match for the rapidly iwpiuving Quist, who was never extended. Wilde served as well as the Australian but his ground shots were much weaker. Brilliant tennis, with many thrilling rallies, marked the doubles match, Moon, excelling in ground shots, while Hopman volleyed and smashed with telling effect. Perry, however, was the dominating figure on the court, making many remarkable recoveries, driving, smashing and volleying for many winners. Lee had brilliant periods but was weak in comparison with Perry, and too many of his shots found the net. Many volleying duels with four players at the net provided the big crowd much excitement, and several times they had to be curbed by the umpire. Winning all four rubbers, Australia holds a commanding lead.
