CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS

ALL PREMISES TO CLOSE SUMMARY OF OBSERVANCES. Aftgr the rush of business during the last few days, the usual Christmas holidays will be observed, and ail offices will close down for certain periods. Following are the holidays that will be observed by the different sections of the community:— Retailers. —All retail shops will close at. 5.30 o’clock_t.o-n.ight, and will remain open until 10 o’clock to-morrow night, Saturday. • Thiey will be closed on. Monday and Tuesday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and will re-open on Wednesday. The following Friday, December 29, they will close at 5.30 o ’clock, ■ remaining open on the Saturday again until 10 o’clock. Monday, January J, and 'Tuesday, January 2, will find the shops shut all day. Wholesalers.—Tremises will close at noon to-morrow, Saturday, and will not re-open until January 3. Post Office. —-On ’Atonday and Tuesday, Christmas and Boxing Day, the Post Office will be closed in all branches and there will be no delivery by postmen or mail contractors. Mails will < lose at 7.15 a.m. on Tuesday morning, and will be despatched to the principal offices. All street boxes will be cleared after 11 p.m. on Christmas Day. There will be no delivery of correspondence on Saturday afternoon, December 30, but correspondence may be received at the inquiry box between 7 and 8 p.m. The Savings Bank will be open that r.ight between 7 and 8 o’clock for acceptance of deposits. On Monday, January 1, the Post Office will be closed in all branches and there will be no delivery. Mails closing at 7.15 a.m. will again be forwarded to principal offices. The Telegraph Office will be open on Christmas Day between the hours of 6.30 and 7.30 p.m.; on Boxing Day the hours will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 7 p.m. until midnight. On Monday, January 1, the office will again be open from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., and froi 7 p.m. until midnight. Correspondence will be delivered as usual to-morrow. Saturday, and a further delivery will be from the inquiry window of the postman’s branch at the back of the Parcels Office, Ridgway Street, between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Savings Bank will also be open between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. for the acceptance of deposits. Banks.—Ail banks will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, and Monday and Tuesday, January 1 and 2. of the following week. The Court—The Cert will close tomorrow at noon and will not re-open until January 4. The next Court day for criminal cases will be hold on January 15. and the first civil cases of the New Year will be hoard on January 16. •‘Chronicle.”—The “Chronicle” will not be published on Christmas Day. Monday, but the main office will be open that night from 7 o’clock onwards, when casual advertisements will be accepted. On Tuesday, Boxing Day, the office will bo open from 9 a.m. to 10.30 p.m, and from 7.30 p.m. onwards. The branch office in Victoria Avenue will be closed on Monday but will open from 9 a.m. to II a.m. on Tuesday. The same hours will he observed during the following week in connection with New Year.

Law Offices.—All offices will close at noon to-morrow vid will not open again until January 11. Insurance Offices.—Holidays will he observed from to-morrow at noon until Thursday of next week, when offices will open at 9 o’clock.
