; ♦_ PERSONAL. 1 Miss Alison Bradmore, of Tauranga, is visiting Wavcrlcy, where she is being entertained by many of her old friends. She is staying with Mrs. G. Walkinton. Bev. and Mrs. Gardiner left last Monday for Wellington, where Bev. Gardiner is attending the Anglican Synod. Miss J. Palmer, who has-been on the teaching staff of the Wanganui Girls’ College, is spending the holidays at her home. With the commencement of the new term. Miss Palmer -will take up her duties as science mistress at the Wanganui Technical College, as successor to Miss Copsley. Master Bain Simmons, of Pa tea. is spending the holidays with his aunt. Mrs. W. B. 8. Brewer, "Waihau. ’’ Mr. G. Palmer, of the. Hawera staff of the Taranaki Daily News, is at present on holiday in Sydney, leaving Wellington last Saturday, after receiving his LL.B degree at the Victoria University College capping. Mrs. Mitealfe has returned from Wellington, where she spent last week-end. W.D.F.U. There was a smaller attendance than usual at the monthly meeting of the committee of the Wavcrlcy branch of the W.D.F.U. last week. Mrs. W. Macfarlane presided. Apologies for nonattendance were received from Mcsdames Nicholson, G. Alexander. Mircalfe, Palmer, McGregor, Matthews, Graham, Dickie and Miss McGregor. Correspondence was dealt with, including a letter of thanks from Mr. Hooker, for the branch’s donation towards the installation of a. talkie picture plant at the Pukeroa Sanatorium. Following the meeting, an address was given to a public meeting arranged by the W.D.F.U. in conjunction with the Women’s Institute, Miss McMillan, B.H.Sc., giving an address on the value of instruction in home science. . She offered to arrange classes for instruction in dressmaking, food and health, home planning, beautifying and renovating, and other subjects. For fhis purpose, a committee was formed, comprising Mrs. Boyer (chairman), Mrs. Jas. Newland (secretary), and Mesdames Morrison, Mountfort, D. Walker and Lovegrocc. Several name? were handed in by' those attending the meeting, which was very well attended. CONCERT AND DANCE. With a programme which has not been equalled for many months, a concert is to be given next week which should delight all Wavcrlcy residents. Xylophone, violin, piano, guitar and ’cello arq all instruments which will take part, whic artists from Wanganui and Patea are to be the sooists. From modern music to old.-time tunes and classical composers, the programme includes all manner of entertainment. Tap-dancing and duo dances will delight also. This programme, which is being arranged by the Bridges 1 Trio, from Wanganui, is to be followed by supper and dancing, and funds are in aid of St. Francis’ Church.
