OHAKUNE

PRESENTATIONS Prior to their departure to Palmerston Noith, Mr. and Mrs. R. Rasmus sen were presented by the members of the Railway Tennis Club with a Stewart crystal cake disli and a foun tain pen. Mr. A. Gilmore made the presenta lions and Messrs. L. Doyle and G Brown also spoke and Mr. Rasmussen suitably replied. Un the occasion of his marriage at Thames a presentation was made Io Mr. W. P. Boyd, of the railway engineers staff, of a wringer, by his fel low employees. Mr. Dow made the presentation and Messrs Grace and Leggett added a lew words to his remarks. Mr. Boyd replied. LAKES ROAD CORNER Workmen have been busy impioviug the corner of Raetihi-Oahkune Road and Lakes Road. The filling work hex now been completed. The correct superelevation will be set and the road metalled, when the recent work has consolidated. The road is being widened and banked along the bitumen leading from the Lakes Road corner and the adjacent owner has had to remove his fence to the correct line. The county engineer made a partial survey for drainage of the swamp running parallel with Lakes Road. He considers a comprehensive scheme should be carried out and commenced from the Pakihi Road end of the swamp, as the improvements to the road now being done will have a flooding effect on the properties at the lower end owing to the more rapid clearance of flood waters where drains have been cut. Karioi Road Work has been recommenced under the control of the Waimarino County Council in connection with the reduction and superelevation of dangerous corners on the road between Rangataua and Karioi, and when completed will considerably improve this road for motorists. GENERAL The Borough Council has installed two lighting and one heating points at the motors camp site. The number of units sent out from the borough power house last month was 26,3000, as against 27,710 for the same month last year, and the number purchased was 8650, as against 11,200 the previous year.
