CITY CLOCK APPEAL

£2OO LIMIT PASSED. The Citizens’ Committee representing the Clock Fund (His Worship the Mayor presiding), met on Thursday night at the Council Chambers. It was reported that £220 was in hand towards the project. The various committees set fip to canvass the city and suburbs had already opened their campaign and with the enthusiasm shown it is anticipated that the third hundred should shortly be in sight. Allowing for the times, there is no doubt that the public have responded well to the call. The business and commercial sections havs contributed very liberally, and if this is supplemented by generous donations from public-spirited citizens, plus smaller contributions from all classes, then Wanganui’s clock is assured. The general concensus of opinion is that the city should have an up-to-date time ser vice. This, however, can only be achieved with the liberal financial support of every citizen. Various methods of appeal, such as clock days, theatre and picture entertainments, and similar means to augment the funds, will be indulged in from week to week to assist in raising the required amount. All that is asked from the Wanganui public is to give as liberally as possible. The greater the liberality the better will bo the clock service for the citizens of this city.
