WEDDINGS

CLARKSON—WEIL ' St. John’s Presbyterian. Church, Hawera, was the scene on May 4 of tue I wedding of Annie, cider daughter of Mrs. E. Weir, Waihi Road, Hawera, and the late Mr. Hugh Weir, Ballymacilroy, Ulster, Ireland, to Joshua John James, eldest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. J. Clarkson, Batea. The Rev. R. E. Evans was the minister and AirJ. L. Bowe played the wedding musicThe church decorations in shades of brown and orange were the work of the Bible class girls. The bride, escorted by her brother, Air. R. Weir, was gowned m an anklelength frock of white georgette and lace, made with a shaped bodice of lace and side flares of georgette and godets of lace. With this she wore a lace coatee with flared georgette trimmings, and a long white veil trimmed with orange buds formed a train. Her shower bouquet was of white carnations and chrysanthemums, maiden-hair fern and white ribbon streamers. .

The three bridesmaids, Misses Thompson (cousin of the bride), New Plymouth), M. Barkley (cousin of tlie bride (Foxton), and E. Clarkson (sister of the bridegroom, Patea) A wore sleeveless frocks of ankle-lengtu pale blue crepe-athol and coatees finished with brilliant buckles. The frocks were made with tight-fitting bodices with a flared frill from waistlin.% to hem. They also wore beige felt hats trimmed with soft blue velvet and feathers. Their bouquets were oi autumn tints and maiden-hair fern. Air. Edwin Clarkson, Patea, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Messrs. R. Clarkson, Patea, and H. Weir, Hawera, were groomsmen.

Four Eltham pipers (Pipe Ala jot Alorrison and Pipers Crawford. Gower and Russell) played “The Highland Wedding” as the bride and bridegroom left the church and “The Blue Bonnets over the Border” to the Carlton Tea Rooms, where the reception was held. The floral arrangements were in pale shades of chrysanthemums. To receive the guests the bride’s mother was gowned in black. Bengal silk and coatee trimmed with feather trimmings. The bridegroom's mother wore a black silk frock, fox fur, and black velour hat. Both carried bouquets of bronze and orange flowers and fern.

Air. and Mrs. Clarkson left by car for the north, the bride travelling in a wine crepe remain frock with shaped wine coat, and matching felt hat, brown shoes, stockings and gloves. She also wore a long brown fur stole, the gift of the bridegroom. Their homo will bo in Auckland.

DANCE AT ELRICK Red badges aud ribbons were greatly in evidence at the Elrick Cabaret last Saturday night, when the Wanganui City group of Rovers aud Company oi Rangers held a most enjoyable danceAll arrangements had been well made, and the floor was almost too crowded for dancing, but the happy spirit prevalent during the evening was proof against this. Dance music supplied by the River City Syncopators was au that was needed to make the function delightfully enjoyable. The chief othcers of both Rovers and Rangers acted as hosts and hostesses, and saw that everyone was enjoying themselves. Among those present were Mesdames M. B.
