MILITARY BALL

GAIETY AT WAVERLEY Military uniforms of scarlet and khaki were in evidence at the Military Ball held at Waverlcy last Friday night. With practically all those m camp present at the dance there was a preponderance of men, so that the ladies were well looked after. Decora tions of amber and black were suspended from the walls across the ceil ing, and round the walls were clumps of greenery. At the entrance to the supper room the regiment's badge was carried out in amber and black crepe paper and green ferns. The stage was beautifully decorated with punga fern, red berries and greenery. Tables in the supper room looked very charming with great bowls of tawny and gold chrysanthemums. To music by the Wanganui River City Syncopators, the all-night dances of fifty years ago were almost equalled That the dance was a success was not doubted from the Beginning, the offi cers and soldiers of the camp entering into the social side of their week in camp with keenness. Civilians, in their immaculate evening dress, had to strive hard to compete with any sue cess with the uniforms of khaki and. scarlet.
