STEAMER TIED UP
THE CANBERRA DISPUTE SERIOUS TURN OF EVENTS Received Oct. 14, J 0.25 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 14. The seamen’s dispute affecting the steamer Canberra Jias taken a more serious turn. A settlement was not effected and the vessel has becu laid up indefinitely.
Fifteen racehorses for Melbourne have been unloaded and arc entraining for that destination to-night. All the passengers have left the ship and the Canberra’s cargo is being transshipped by the steamer Wear, but the union asked the waterside workers to refuse to handle it.
There is every indication that the dispute will extend to other inter-State vessels.
Messrs Howard Smith, Limited, announce that tho steamer Dimboola is replacing the Canberra. The New Zealand horses involved are Banner, Concentrate and Oratorian.
