The Management Committee of the New'Zealand Cricket Council decided last night to award tho Bedpath Cup for tho best batting average for the year to C. S. Dempster. Tho committee took into account the Plunket Shield matches last summer and tho tour in England. In tho Plunket Shield matches G. L. Weir had an average of 89 and H. M. McGirr 64. Counting in the English tour Dempster rose from 20 to 52.80, and Blunt to 43.30, while Weir fell to 33. McGirr did not go Homo. In a game which was not without bright spots but which was confined mainly to tho forwards, especially in the second spell, tho Wellington Rugby representatives defeated Hawke’s Bay at McLean Park to-day by 15 points to 8, before an attendance of ’OOO spectators.
