FOR AUCKLAND MEETING

RAYNEB’S TEAM GALLOPS. DEPARTURE THIS AFTERNOON. "With a team of four horses for the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting, W. Rayner will leave Wanganui this afternoon for Ellerslie. The quartette under his charge will consist of Pomp and Impetuous and the two juveniles, Midinette (Limond—Motley) and Genesta (Thespian—Damaris). Pedestal will be left a„ home to continues his prepartion for the Marton spring meeting. On Saturday morning Rayner put them through their final paces prior to

completing preparations for their departure. The weather before the breakfast interval promised to be fine, but shortly before six o’clock rain set in and soon developed ’.nto a heavy downpour. As a result number one track, on which work was done the reverse way, became very heavy and they were getting into it before the fast work was concluded. Midinette .nd Genesta were the first pair to be sent along after trotting round on the inside track. Coming out to number one they got away from the two furlong post to run to the six, the last two furlongs of the journey being slightly uphill and into the face of the breeze. Genesta was not much use to her companion, for Midinette was on her own when they reached the end of the half-mile, the watch registering 50 2-ssec., with”the first quarter taking them 24 l-sseq. It was a reLily good effort on the part of the Limond—Motley filly, who claims an engagement in the Welcome Stakes, while sho and her companion are also in the Musket Stakes on the second day of the meeting. Midinette may not prove to be quite so forward as some of the youngsters which have been seen out in the two-year-old races that have already been decided, but the manner in which she disposed of her task this morning augurs well for her future. Pomp, Impetuous and Pedestal were sent off together from the winning post to traverse five furlongs, and at the finish Pomp was doing it best to record Imin. ' 2-ssee. for the journey, with Impetuous right up with him, and Pedestal, who was not pushed, three or four lengths further back. They took 26sec. for the initial quarter and a fraction under 51sec. for the first four furlongs. Pomp has come on well after his two races at the Wanganui meeting and appears much improved thereby, while Impetuous also has benefited considerably. Pomp will contest the Gordon Handicap on the opening day at Ellerslie, while Impetuous may bp seen out in the Shorts Handicap if the weights suit. Knollmere, looking better than ever, was given pace work on th n inside track. Ho appears in great fettle to undergo prepartion for his Otaki engagements, and though the weight adjuster has not taken risks with him he is sure to run a good race if taken to the meeting. Paratoo was also let off with a light task. It is understood that Arisus will be sent through to Auckland this afternoon by his owner-trainer. Mr L. G. Paul, to fulfil his engagements at the Ellerslie fixture. On his forward running at Wanganui Arisus promises to take a prominent part in the decision of any event that his owner elects to take on at the Auckland meeting.
