MOTOR CAR THIEVES

FOUR YOUNG MEN. [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Aug. 11. An astounding story of motor car conversions and motor cycle thefts was told at the Police Court to-day, when four young men appeared. After stealing they dismantled them and various parts were produced, making the Court look like a mechanic’s workshop. John Foley, aged 21, Thomas Henry Foley, aged 19, Graham Wilfred Morton, aged 20, and George Morton were sentenced to three years’ probation for theft of a motor cycle valued at £45. They were convicted and discharged on several other charges. The police said that there had been a lot of car stealing in the Mt. Eden district but since the arrests there had been very few reports of stolen cars. One accused had a bunch of car keys when arrested. The Magistrate (Mr Hunt) said that all wore extremely lucky to be given probation. They deserved three years at the Borstal.
