EXISTENCE DISPROVED DISCOVERY CAPTAIN’S REPORT Received Aug. 11, 9-20 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 11. Although nautical charts indicate the existence of the mysterious Dougherty Island in the great southern ocean, Captain Mackenzie, master of the Discovery, upon the occasion of the last research expedition, declared that he saw no sign of such an island. The Discoverv passed over the charted position of Dougherty Island, which is described as one of the most desolate spots in the great white south, and soundings revealed 2,472 fathoms of water.
