A MEETING AT BASLE GERMANY’S CREDIT NEEDS DIRECT NEGOTIATIONS NOTED [British Official Wireless.] Received Aug. 11, 9.5 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 10. There was a meeting to-day at Basle of the committee of banking experts which the seven-power conference on July 23 requested the Bank of International Settlements “to set up to inquire into the immediate further credit needs of Germany and study the conversion of short-term credits into long-term.” The committee consists of representatives nominated by the governors of the central banks and presided over by Mr Albert Wiggin. United States member. It took note of the direct negotiations now proceeding between London, New York, Paris and Zurich, and reached the conclusion that no decision should be taken until the results of these negotiations were known. The British member is Sir Walter Layton, a director of the Bank of England.
