CRASHED INTO WHARF
UNION'S COMPANY’S WINGATUI [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Aug. 10. While manoeuvring to pull in alongside No. 16, Queen’s Wharf, on arrival from Auckland shortly before 10.30 this morning the Union Steam Ship Company’s cargo steamer Wingatui, 2378 tons, crashed bows first into the wharf, tearing a hole several feet deep into the timber and straining some of the piles and stays under the decking. The ship, apparently, was undamaged, and after going astern she berthed in the usual manner. The hole in the wharf was fenced off and the loading and unloading of the steamer’s cargo was proceeded with.
