SCHOOL ROOT CROPS The Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club’s plots were examined yesterday by Mr T. E. Lonsdale and Air J. B. Hogg, of the Agricultural Department. Cars, provided by Alessrs Aiken, Boyne and Middleditch, conveyed the children to the several plots. In the last match of the second round between Waitotara and Kai Iwi last Saturday, the standard of the play was much improved on former matches. Throughout the game, play was kept going up and down Held, some parts of the game being qu.te spectacular. Both sides struggled valiantly for supremacy, but ax hen time was called the scores were exon at 6 points. Both teams were in sp’endid condition. Excellent tactics in tackling were the main reason why the wores were not bigger. Wuri scored both tries for Kai Iwi, and IL Forsythe scored a try and a penally goat ''or Waitotara. Mr J. Verry ably refereed th*' game. Fast and open w.is the match he 'ween Upriver and Waverley, played at Puao. The home team’s backs were throwing the ball about in great style and it was due to thuir superiority in this direction that the final score of 9 —3 resulted in a win for Upriver,
