GENERAL NEWS At the monthly meeting of the Taihape Golf Club on Friday. The resignation of Mr A. F. McKenzie as a member of the committee, was received with regret. The meeting placed on re cord its high appreciation of the ser vices rendered by Mr McKenzie dm ing the time he was a member of the committee. Mr F. Reece has been elected to fill tho vacancy. The ball committee of the Rangitikei Agricultural and Pastoral Association, which worked so hard to ensure the success of this social event, comprised the following: Messrs A. McColl, A. K. Overton, A. W. Bicknell. E. R. Fannin, W. Anderson, J. A. Morrison and F. M. Marlow (secretary). The committee was ably assisted by members and supporters of the association. Owing to the heavy rainfall on Saturday all football fixtures were postponed. Mr B. M. Kibblewhite, M.A., headmaster of the Taihape District High School, has been appointed principal of the Matamata District High School and Junior High School, and will probably be leaving Taihape about July 10 to take up his new duties. Mr Kibblewhite has been in charge of the Taihape School for the past 2X years. On the recommendation of the school inspectors the Wanganui Education Board has awarded the Taihape School a certificate of environment. There is no doubt that tho honour is well deserved, as the appearance of the school grounds has been the subject of much favourable comment recently. Religious instruction is to be given at the Taihape School for a quarter of an hour each week. Tho details in connection with the system are to bv arranged by the local ministers and the headmaster. No child is compelled to attend the classes. At rhe monthly meeting of the Taihane School Committee, the headmaster (Mr B M. Kibblewhite), reported that owing to the fact that the attendance at the school was considerably affected by sickness, nothing could he done at the present time in regard to organising the annual school ball.
