A HARDY FAVOURITE. ’ Antirrhinums are a very hardy and 1 useful class of plants for present planting for early flowering. Recent inik provements include improved habit of ? growth and floriferousness and the elim ’ inatiou of the unpopular purple shades and the substitution of the many at--1 tractive rich self-colours and the combination of colours including delicate pinks and various art shades. A feature in the tall varieties is the large . spikes of large flowers. The intermediate have long flowers in dense spikes and great variety of shades from glowing orange scarlet to pure white and 1 intermediate colours. The dwarf bed- ■ ding varieties are a happy medium be- _ tween the Tom Thumb and the intermediate varieties, and arc specially 1 adapted for small beds. The, flowers of the different sections ' of antirrhinums are invaluable for cutting. Seedlings may be planted out almost at any time throughout the whole twelve months. The tall varieties are suitable for groups in large borders. Where antirrhinums have flowered and ’ seeded numerous self-sown seedlings invariably come up and may be utilised ’ for replanting. The ground for antir--1 rhinuins should bo liberally dressed with lime. In some instances recently a leaf disease has made its appearance upon antirrhinums.
