WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Tho monthly meeting of tho above was held on Tuesday night, Airs W. E. Pearce presided over a good attendance of members. Also present wore four visitors from outside branches. A welcome was extended to some new members. A letter from the Jubilee Blind Insti tutc with reference to taking a case of goods for sale was held over until next meeting. Mrs Adams reported on tho annual meeting of the Federation recently held at Palmerston North and was accord cd a vote of thanks. Airs Short (Cheltenham) gave an interesting demonstration of glove making. A hearty vote of thanks was carried with applause. The hostesses foi the evening were Mesdames L. Sadler, C. Yorke, A. Vile and Aliss Lily Gcdye. The meeting closed wltu the singing of the National Anthem. SANDON SCHOOL CONCERT The concert organised in aid of the School Improvement Fund was a decidea success and the promoters should be well pleased with the result of their efforts. The staging was good and the lighting and dressing excellent. The children did thai r parts well and their efforts were heartily appreciated by the largo number present. At a brief interval before the close, Air H. V. Bon-i on behalf of tho committee, thanked the teaching staff and tho ladies who had assisted in preparing the dresses for the children, and asked fo r tho co operation of the public to still further improve the school grounds. Afr G. 'J. Francis acknowledged the vote of thanks and added that the thanks of the promoters was due to Afr Bond for his efforts. Tho concert was opened with a piano duet played by Alavis Francis and Audrey Tostcvin. The visit of tho first part of the programme was a portion of tho “Alerchant of Venice,’’ the characters being taken by Lloyd Harris (Duke of Venice), Lance Andrew (Bassanio), Richard Afeyer (Antonio), Edgar Forbes (Gratiano), Audrey Tosteviu (clerk), Clive Oppatt (Salarino), Don Tunnicliffo (Salanio) Charlie Mullin (gaoler), Eileen Alullin (Nevissa), Jean Butle r (Portia), Denis Anderson (Shylock). Tho rendering as received with prolonged applause, the principals assembled on the stage and bowed their acknowledgment.
