SOCIAL A number of her sons’ friends were entertained by Airs C. J. Dickie at a bridge evening last Thursday. EGMONT-WANGANUI HUNT MEET AT WHENUAKURA Followers made the meet at Whenuakura last Saturday one of the largest held there for many seasons. Taking into consideration that the cold weather and the long distance from transport facilities may have deterred many from attending this hunt, the attendance only shows that the popularity of this club is steadily increasing. The chase led riders over the properties of Mrs Gower and Messrs G. Wills, J. Sheahan and Callendar. Runs were short owing to the numerous gullies in this district, but the afternoon proved very enjoyable to all followers. Fences and jumps which were on the high side tried out the abilities of many of both riders and horses. As a result, fewer were taking the jumps. There were few spills, however, and none of a serious nature, or resulting in injury to anyone. One kill was made after a short chase. This keeps up the club’s average, as so far there has not been a meet where a kill has not been made. At the close of the day, all followers were entertained to very welcome re freshment at the Whenuakura Hall, Mrs Bosley, Mrs S. Davidson and Aliss C. Davidson acting as hostesses and Air J. Sheahan as host. Dr. Simmons, master, on behalf of the members, thanked their hostesses for their very “warming” welcome and refreshment, and also the owners of the properties for the use of their lands during the afternoon. 'Three cheers were given with a will. Air J. Sheahan replying on behalf of the ladies.
