THEFT CHARGES
BLENHEIM MAN IN COURT [ Per Press Association. 1 BLENHEIM. Nov. 19. Roy Gladstone Ewart pleaded not guilty to a charge that with intent to defraud ho attempted to obtain £6<*o from the Phoenix Assurance Coy. by allegedly falsely representing that the value of stock in a mercery shop at. which a fire took place was £966, whereas in fact it was only £9l. He was further charged with making a false declaration with regard to an insurance claim, to which he pleaded nnt guilty. Ewart also pleaded not guilty to throe charges of allegedly receiving sums ranging from £2 2s to £5 10s from the clients of N. Tossman and Coy. furriers, of Christchurch, failing to ac-
count for same and thus committing theft.
Several similar theft cnarges involving sums below £2 were adjourned pending the Supreme Court sitting to which accused was committed for trial on the major counts.
