BRITISH COAL TRADE
EUROPEAN MARKETS THE COMMITTEE’S REPORT [ British Official Wireless. ] RUGBY, Oct. 31The report of the British coal delegation to Sweden, Norway and Denmark, of the Under-Secretary for Mines (Mr Shinwell) recommends that, failing a readjustment by an international agreement on the contested markets on lines acceptable to the British coal trade the advisability of affording assistance to the export trade by means of legislation, merits careful consideration. It also urges that the efficiency of rail and dock coal-loading equipment be examined that a continuously progressive policy be adopted in screening, grading and cleaning coal to suit foreign customers’ requirements, that the issue of authoritative standard methods of coal analysis and sampling be expedited, and that the marketing methods be reconsidered.
