The wanganui Chronicle. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1929. EMPIRE TRADE
THE various aspects of Empire Trade are dealt with so fully and exhaustively elsewhere in this issue that further comment along this line would be in the nature of gilding the lily. It is appropriate, however, to remark upon the steady progress which has been made by the Empire Trade Week movement in Wanganui. Started four years ago in a very modest way the movement has gained momentum as it has gone forward. Today’s effort is of no small dimensions. The pleasing feature is that there is ample evidence to indicate that next year’s effort can be planned on even more comprehensive lines and that the necessary support will be forthcoming. This must be very gratifying to the committee, for they must see in their work, the fruition of a movement of yet wider potentialities. Much has been achieved, but more may be accomplished. The movement has in it the germ of a great idea, it is the’ definite organisation of that natural sentiment which prompts us to prefer to purchase the product of a Britisher’s industry over that of another of different nationality. No objection can be raised to this natural desire nor to the organisation which stimulates it. It is inherent in most peoples to-day. The Empire Trade Week effort in Wanganui is worthy of all the support which the public is able to give and it is to be hoped that this support will be forthcoming. There is every reason for confidence that it will he.
