OHAKUNE

OHAKUNE SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the above school was held at the school on Monday evening. There were present Messrs J. P. Cottier (chairman), G. Veitch, .T. G. McGregor, W. Henson and F. Woodward (secretary). The Wanganui Education Board wrote stating that the blockage from the rain was caused by sawdust coming down the creek. —A suggestion was put forward by the committee to have alterations made and it was resolved to write to the Board again for authority to proceed with the work. The Education Board stated that Miss Wapp hid been appointed to the local teaching staff in place of Miss Moir and that Miss Reid was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by Miss Henry’s transfer. Both these appointments were only temporary. Miss E. M. Jackes would fill the permanent position caused by Mrs Reeve’s transfer. The secretary reported upon the recent school ball and stated that a profit of £7 16s 7d was made.—lt was resolved to place on record the good work done by the many helpers including Teachers, committeemen’s wives and Mr H. Sinclair.

It was reported that one class had to be taught in the cookery room owing to there being insufficient class rooms at present. The class had to be moved out of this once a fortnight, to tho school h 11, for 24 days while cookery classes were being held, and this caused much inconvenience.—lt was resolved to call the Board’s attention to this matter and point out the necessity for an additional classroom. It was resolved to write to the Board for a cupboard for the school records. It was also resolved to ask for concrete floors to be placed around the taps and basins. It was decided to protest to the Board upon the continued changing of teachers, some classes having as many

as four new teachers during the year. This did not allow of the best of tuition for the children.
