FALSE RUMOURS

! CH A NG NOT DEAD OCCUPATION OF PEKING. [ By Telegraph—Per Press Assn.—Copyright j [ Australian Press Assn. J SHANGHAI, June 6. Colonel Doihara, Japanese adviser to the Peking Government, visited Marshal Chang Tso Lin’s residence at Alukden last evening and reports that Chang’s condition is satisfactory. Rumours of his death arc unfounded. The Mukden armies are rapidly retreating towards Manchuria. General Y’en Hsi Shan, Governor of Shangsi, has entered Peking. The Shangsi army is encamped on the outskirts of Peking awaiting complete evacuation by Marshal Chang Tso Lin’s troops. Nationalist flags are flying in the capital. Peking service telegrams report that order is being maintained and the city is being patrolled by local gendarmes under General Pao Yu Lin, who was deputed to perform this task by the out-going Government.

The committee of older statesmen in the city have telegraphed to the three southern leaders Chiang, Yeu, and Feng, requesting that’ until arrangements are made to hand over the city, Pao Yu Lin should be allowed to continue these duties undisturbed, and then withdraw with his men.

The doyen of the Corps Diplomatique has sent a request on similar lines to the three Southern leaders.

Passengers and goods trains to Pekij£ and Tientsin arc interrupted through troops movements.
