LABOUR SPLIT

SOUTH AFRICAN FEUD MB CRESSWELL’S MANIFESTO. [ Australian Press Assn.—United Service ] CAPETOWN, May 15. Mr Cresswell has issued his promised manifesto, substantially on the lines indicated. It immediately provoked bitter replies from supporters of the National Council of the Labour Party. A strenuous and almost envenomed feud is proceeding. Mr Cresswell is being charged with having rent the Labour Party from top to bottom, and sent the Labour organisation back to the pre-war days for his own political ends. None the less, opinion is inclined to the view that Mr Cresswell may succeed in his attempt to capture the machinery of the party from the hands of the National Council though only after a fight which will probably prove utterly disastrous to the Party.
