ANNUAL MEETING A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. The annual meeting of the Wanganui Afusicians’ Society was held last evening, the president, Air Will Hutchens, being in the chair. Alias A. J. Church reported on certain matters that had conic up for discussion at the New Zealand Conference held in Christchurch.

It was resolved to place on record the Society’s approval of the scheme now on foot for the forming of a parent body of the various societies throughout the Dominion. In moving the motion, the chairman remarked that the bigger the organisation was, the more weight it would carry, and it was obvious that a change was needed, as at the present time there was ro unity among the societies.

The annual report, which was adopted, inter alia, stated that at the meeting of the Society on July 5, rhe occasion being the centenary of Beethoven, the evening’s programme was confined to works of the great composer- On July 12 the Society had the honour of entertaining Ignaz Friedman, the eminent pianist, at afternoon tea. On September 26 a reception to Air 11. C. C. Afoule, M.A-, Afus. Bac.. was held <n the rooms of the Victoria League. On October 10 a reception to Mr G. F. Vincent, L.T.C.L., examiner for Trinity College, was held in the rooms of the Victoria League- The membership of the Society stood at 39 active members, and 14 honorary members—a total of 53.

References were made by various speakers to the services of the president and secretary, Messrs Hutchens and Naumann, for their valuable services to the Society for the past year.

The election of officers resulted: President, Afr Gordon Afcßeth; vicepresident, Airs Ivo Symes; secretary, Mr C. G. O. Naumann; treasurer, Miss Af. B- Richmond; members of the council, Misses Blennerhassett and A. J. Church, and Afadame Spillane.
