A NARROW ESCAPE

HOUSE BURNED SLEEPING BOY’S DANGER £ Per press Association. ] LEVIN, March 27. A fire at half-past twelve last night destroyed a five-roomed house at Shannon, owned by Air E. A. H. Osborne and occupied by Air and Airs F. Buckman and family.

The occupants had retired at hairpast eleven when everything appeared to be all right. An hour later Air Buckman was awakened by the smell of smoke and hastened, to the back room where a young boy was sleeping. He found that the flames were bursting through the ceiling and the boy was still asleep. He was just in time to pick the lad up with a few clothes and hurry out with him. In the meantime his wife and daughter escaped with the clothes they could gather up in their flight. The building was insured, hut particulars are not available. On the furniture there was £l5O.

The residence was an okl one, the insurance being £325 in the State Office. Besides the famity was a boarder named A. O’Neill. In a short limo th© place was a raging furnace. During the evening there had been a fire in the dining room and it is presumed that a spark caused the outbreak.
