AN OPEN VERDICT
PALMERSTON TRAGEDY INQUEST ON MRS MITCHELL [ Per Press Association. ] PALMERSTON N., Nov. 22. The coroner returned an open verdict at the inquest on Esther Ann Mitchell, who died in the Hospital on November 10 as the result of the car in which she had been driven by her husband running into a ballast train at Kangitikei Lane crossing. The hearing of the evidence took all day, the police bringing a number of witnesses who testified that the husband, A. K. Mitchell, was under the influence of liquor. Counsel for the husband also brought forward several witnesses to testify that he was sober for half an hour preceding the tragedy.
