NEW CITROEN ARRIVES
THE LIGHT CAR SUPREME LOW GAS CONSUMPTION A FEATURE. With the prospect of a substantial rise in the price of petrol, following the imposition of the new tax, many prospective car owners—and not a few of those who are already owners—are confining their choice to machines that are compartively easy on gas. Probably that was why the Citroen displayed on Draffin’s stand at the show yesterday attracted such a lot of attention. Sturdy yet speedy, small yet roomy, this smart little English product immediately compels inspection;- and the closer the inspection the greater the realisation that the motor engineers of the Old Country cannot be excelled in workmanship. With special springing and deep upholstery to ensure riding comfort on rough roads, an allsteel body built to last a long time — no rattles here—and fitted with pounds’ worth of etxras as standard equipment, the neat little roadster displayed is a car anyone would be proud to own. In bringing the engine to a state of smooth perfection, exhaustive test:-, were made, and the result is a power unit that will faithfully give 32 miles tp the gallon of petrol and a gallon of oil will last 1000 miles of running. In addition to a clock, rear-vision mirror, speedometer, thermometer and wind screen wiper, the Citroen ib fitted with four wheel brakes of the Westinghouse type, similar to those in nse on the N.Z. Railways, marking a new departure in auto braking practice. Tool box and battery are carried under the valence, where they are out of sight and are yet readily accessible. The new Citroen marks a definite step forward in the development of the British motor industry—indeed in the industry throughout the world—and its elegant appearance, strong steel construction, driving comfort, smooth and economical running and safety, is bound to take a place of prominence among the favourite cars of the Dominion, especially as specialised methods of production and distribution enable it to be sold in this country at a price far below that of any foreign cars of the same class.
