AMUSEMENTS AND MEETINGS

THE GRAND THEATRE Thrills, action and suspense, sprinkled with humour, feature Fox Films latest production, “The War Horse,” with Buck Jones in the stellar role, which is to screen again at the Grand Theatre to-night. But, above all, the producers have made a picture that is a tribute to the horse and his | participation in the World War. Tho story was written Dy Buck Jones. “The War Horse” tells the tale of Grey Eagle, played by Silver Buck, and his adventures on European battle fields. This is a splendid tribute to the horse and as the tale unfolds both human and equine actors go through a scries of adventures that arc of absorbing interest. A fine romance involving Buck and Audrey Evans, played by Lola Todd, supplies the Jove interest, while Buck’s efforts to win her despite the opposition of an officer who wants to marry the girl himself, furnishes the picture with plenty of comedy. Tho supports include a wonderful travel picture entitled “Vendors of the World,” Fox News and Fox comedy. THE DUCHESS THEATRE. (Aramoiho). Harold Bell Wright’s famous novel, “The Winning of Barbara Worth,” will be presented at the Duchess Theatre tonight and to-morrow night. The dramatic romance which features Ronald Colman and the lovely Vilma Banky, reunited on the screen after a year’s separation in other films, is a glowing tale of those pioneers who battled with the menace of water, first in its total absence and then in its overflowing presence. It is at once the story of vast lands reclaimed and the reclamation of a man’s soul. “The Winning of Barbara Worth” presents the most unique eternal triangle of any of the more important films, with Willard Holmes, eastern engineer, coming to love Barbara just as Abe Lee, desert-bred westerner, does; and poor Barbara does not know her own mind, loving both. Gary Cooper, one of the year’s “finds,” plays Abe lee to Ronald Colman’s Holmes. And Miss Banky is Barbara Worth, Daughter of the Jefferson Worth who knew tho west should be reclaimed. An excellent supporting programme will be screened, and patrons, to ensure good seats, should make early reservations. GARRISON BAND CONCERT Next Monday evening, the Garrison Band will give their first hon. members ’ concert of the season in the Opera House. The programme to be submitted is a very fine one, comprising some fourteen numbers, including vocal and instrumental duets, trio, quartette of male voices, a quintette of I mixed voices, violin solo, vocal solos and some very fine selections by the Garrison Band. It is hardly necessary to remind hon. members to book early as the band’s concerts in the past have invariably attracted full houses, and Monday evening’s function should be equally successful.
