PEACE CELEBRATIONS

CHILDREN’S DAY ON FRIDAY r AND SATURDAY Five loaves and two small fishes sufficed, the Bible records, to feed a multitude. Greater preparations have, however, been made to feed some 1600 children who will take part in the big sports gathering which will be held/ on Cook’s Gardens on Friday next. The occasion is the Peace Day Commemoration sports fixture run by the Wanganui Primary Schools Amateur Association and if the success of last year’s meeting can be taken as an indication of what can be expected this year there is something ‘ ‘ extra special” in store for those who attend. The arrangements for providing the 1600 children with food are on the same complete scale as everything else handled by the untiring secretary, Air i H. McFeely. At midday all tho children will as- ■ semble in their respective camps on the Cook’s Gardens cycle track anidi cacx camp will provide a fatigue party to fetch the provisions. The caterers will have a box of food ready for each child, each of the little boxes containing sandwiches, cakes and sweets and all that parents will need to make sure of is to provide the children with mugs for drinking purposes. Thus will Wanganui have evidence of how a multitude is fed in these modern times without recourse to miracles.
