MILITARY CONCERT
GARRISON BAND’S SUCCESS The first military concert to be held in W’anganui took place in His Majesty ’s Theatre on Sunday evening, the performers being the Garrison Band, assisted by reed, wood-wind and string instrumentalists. The attendance was the largest seen at a Sunday night concert for many months, and the audience was thoroughly appreciative, every performer being encored. During an interval in the programme Mr L. Cohen congratulated the band and its conductor (Mr T. Gray) on the success achieved. He said a military band was the preparatory step to the magnificence of the full orchestra. There has been a request made that the band repeat the programme on Sunday evening, November 20. The programme was as follows:: — Hymn, “Dexter,” the band, song, “Tomorrow,” Mr F. Campbell; song, “Break 0’ Day,” Mrs C. S. Jacobs; march, “A Night in Switzerland,’’ the band; musical monologue, Mr A. L. Griffiths; song, “The Ships of Arcady, ’’ Miss Doris Symes; selection, “La Gran Via,” the baud; song, “The Fortune Hunter,” Mr Christie; song, “Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes,” Mr Bosher; march “Black Rock,” the band.
