THE FREE STATE
ELECTION RESULTS Progress Figures Indicate Constitutional Victory COALITION LIKELY. [By Telegraph—Per Press Assn.—Copyright.] Received June 14, 7 p.m. (The Times.) LONDON, June 14. The Dublin correspondent of the Times states that although returns are incomplete, it is clear that the Free State elections have resulted in a victory for the supporters of the AngloIrish Treaty. Polling was unexpectedly heavy in nearly every constituency. The Constitutionals won despite the Republicans’ admittedly superior organisation and large campaigning funds, which Mr. De Valera recently obtained in America. Mr. Cosgrave declared before the election that he would not remain in office unless he won at least 50 seats. This is now most doubtful, but the declaration has not prevented an alliance with some smaller Constitutional groups. This seems the most probable result of an election which reaffirms the determination of the majority of the people in the Free State to support the Constitutionals. Latest returns are as follows: Government 39 De Valeraites 38 Labour 22 Independents 10 Farmers 8 National League 7 Sin Fein .. 4 There are still 25 seats outstanding.
