A and P ASSOCIATION [ Special “ Chronicle ” Service. ] The general committee met on Saturday evening, there being present Alessrs C. E. Vile, K. Stevens, A. Theed, W. O, Gordon, E. Gudopp, J H. AfcLean, F. King, E. Thoms. C. Gower, F. Rickman, E. C. Netherclift, N. Coleman, F. McLean, W. Mcßeth, D. AfcLean, H. S. C. Aforrison, S. Gray, W. E. Gibbons, R. J. Moore, S. W. Aforrison, G. Morris, W. Baker, W. F Stevens and the secretary. In the absence of the president (Mr A. S. Coleman) Air C. E. Vile was voted to the chair. Air H. S. C Aforrison gave a brief outline of the annual meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand. Mr H. J. Lancaster, Glen Oroua, who acted as judge of the Jersey classes at the recent show, wrote congratulating the stewards on the excellent manner in which they attended to their duties. Afessr/? A. S. Coleman and H. T, Whale were nominated as delegates for the West Coast sheep district for the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. The secretary was instructed to attend the Secretaries’ Conference at Palmerston North on Wednesday next. The following new members were elected: —Alessrs E. Stent and E. B # Gordon (Marton), S. W. Ingram (Bulls). The chairman extended a hearty welcome to the new members of the committee —Alessrs W. Afcßetti, W. O. Gordon, F. AfcLean and W. Baker. Alessrs A. S. Coleman and H, S. C. Morrison will attend the conference of A and P. Associations of the North Island at Palmerston North on Thursday next. The Horowhenua A. and P. It was decided to call a meeting of ladies in the association rooms this afternoon to make arrangements for the supper and decorations.

Other Business With reference to a circular from the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand asking for an opinion as to whether the Association was in favour of a spring or autumn Royal Show, it was resolved that tne Afarton Association favoured an autumn show. A communication from FullertonSmith and Co. on behalf of T. H Bred in as to what steps the association were taking to form the roads alongside the Association’s property, the committee referred the matter to the Finance Committee, also the question of grubbing gorse on the showgrounds. Afr H. S. C. Aforrison presented Afr C. E Vile with the gold medal donated by the Southdown Sheep Society of New Zealand for the best two-tooth Southdown ram. In replying Mr Vile stated that he had won seven gold medalsr'lasf season, four by the same ram. He had, however, missed the Royal Society’s gold medal for champion ram being runner-up. Sir James G. Wilson ' also wrote thanking the Association for the gold modal for champion Shropshire ram. The secretary reported that the entries were for .1927 were a record, being as follows:—Horses 252, cattle 135, sheep 401, dogs 19, pigs 47, schools 232, home industries 423, total .1509 or 14 7 entries more than the previous best show. The secretary also reported that £l2O were still outstanding for members subscriptions and a further effort is to be made to collect these fees. NEW LOADING BANK AT STATION At the request of the Afarton Jockey Club the Railway Department has decided to provide a loading bank adjoining No. 6 road, Afarton. Accommodation will be provided for six waggons and the work will be put in hand shortly. This loading bank will be a great boon for owners visiting the Marton Jockey Club’s race meetings as they will unload opposite the site of the Trocordero Hotel and thus save a roundabout journey.of over a mile. It will also be of great advantage to settlers on the north side of the railway line.

Moore, A. J. B. Siccly, A. AfcKcnzie, J. D. Gorrie, and T. Barton. R. B. Hammond wrote, stating that he proposed visiting Murton on June 20 in connection with town planning.— Crs. Cameron and AlcKenzie were appointed to meet Air Hammond. Inspector Pargeter reported that he i had inspected the three saleyards and , recommended licenses be granted.— Agreed to. Alessrs Archibald, Aloore and Beaven wrote asking for a rebate of this year’s heavy traffic license fees. —Legal opinion to be obtained. Afr J. W. Neale wrote stating that the well on the Council’s premises occupied by him in Rira Street was full , of water which could not get away.— Referred to the overseer.

Overseer’s Report. Afr W. R. Brant reported on general maintenance having been carried out. The storage tanks and filters at reservoir have been cleared out and blackberry on waterworks reserve cut down. Two concrete culverts have been put in and all water tables, cleared out. The reservoir is holding 24 feet of water and is overflowing. The embankments arc in good order. The gas manager reported that the gas manufacture for the month was 638,500 compared with 653,600 feet in 1926. The treasurer reported that the receipts for the month were £823 18s Bd. The gas working account showed: Receipts £409 Is Id, and expenditure £256 Is lid. The reports were adopted. A petition was received from residents in Mills Street for electric light opposite Afrs Alills residence and the corner of Bond Street. The gas manager was instructed to inspect the locality and report to next meeting. The recommendations of the Town Hall Committee regarding extra seats in the dress circle, and other suggested improvements were adopted. July 15 was fixed as the last day for the payment of water fees for extraordinary supply for the current year. Afr J. Hunter wrote with reference to a culvert on his property at Marton Junction. The overseer stated that the culvert under the footpath was quite safe, and no action was taken. CRIBBAGE TOURNAMENT. The following is the result of last evening’s play: —Druids 14 v.
