MAKING UP LEEWAY INCREASE IN CONCESSION TICKETS With a view to decreasing the annual loss suffered hy the Wanganui Tramways, the City Council at its meeting last evening agreed to an increase in the concession ticket rates. Tho alterations are as under:— Concession tickets: (a) that one section concession ticket bo abolished, thus making the minimum adult single fare 2d; and (b) that the concession ticket rates be revised and altered as follows:—2 sections for 2/3 for 12 riidjes to 2/9 for 12 rides; 3 sections for 2/6 for 12 rides, to 3/3 for 12 rides; 4 sections for 2-9 for 12 rides, to 3/6 for 12 rides; 5 sections for 3/- for 12 rides, to 4/- for 12 rides. On the sales of concession tickets for the past nine months, the increases would represent over £3300 per annum. That theone penny fare for school children be made available only to those attending primary schools, and that these concession tickets be procurable only through the headmasters of the school. That the one penny fare ofr school services as well as to tho tramways.

That all other concessions be abolished. That the Sunday tram service be half hourly over all routes, for the winter months.

Moving the alteration to the regulations, Councillor A. E. Halligan, chairman of the Tramway Committee, said that this department lost £lB,OOO last year and was still going down. The Mayor (Mr W. J. Rogers) registered his vote against the increase. The tramways were a community service and the matter must be regarded from other than a dividend paying aspect. The motion was carried, the Mayor dissenting.
