VICEREGAL The Govern or-General (Sir Charles Fergusson) and his party will pay an unofficial visit to Wanganui to-morrow, arriving at 10.30 a.m. from Taihape. Sir Charles Fergusson will attend a Masonic jubilee function and the races, and the party will leave tho following morning for Wellington. Messrs W. Cowan and W. Kitson (Wellington) are guests at the Rutland Hotel. Dr. Crawford, whose health has not been of the best lately, has gone to Wellington to recuperate, accompanied by Mrs Crawford. Arrivals at the Jutland Hotel include Mr H. B. Lorigan (Hcrctaunga), Mr and Mrs T. Hodgins (Pahiatua), Mr S. J. Reid, Mrs Shand, Mrs Rust, Miss Sargood (Trentham), Mr W. Ross (Cambridge), Mr R. Croucher (Lower Hutt), Messrs F. C. Walker, 11. McLeod, G. 8. Scott (Wellington), Mr and Mrs M. Wright (Auckland), and Mr J. Phillipps (Turakina). Before commencing the business of the City Council last evening a motion of condolence with the relatives of Messrs F. Latham, W. Ashwell and N. Baines was carried on the motion of the Mayor (Mr W. J. Rogers). A similar resolution was carried at the weekly meeting of the Rugby Sub-Union last evening.

The Venerable Archdeacon Creed Meredith is at present on leave. During his absence from Wanganui he will take service at Kaponga amj Opunake, which are without a Vicar at present, and will hold the annual church meetings there by special direction of the Bishop. The Archdeacon will return to Wanganui on Wednesday, May 25. Tn his absence parochial business will bo attended to by the Rev. E. W. Coles, Wanganui East.
