GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS [ From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. ] An incident which caused amusement amongst those who were not directly concerned occurred' during the progress of the Raetihi-Junction football match [at Rochfort Park on Saturday. In an endeavour to supplement their funds, the Plunket Society has obtained permission to run afternoon tea booths at football matches held on both the Ohakune grounds. On this occasion the stand was in the enclosure near the pavilion and evidently too near the playing area, for in finding the line , with a forcible a player landed the ball amongst the eups and saucers, the crash being audible above the dim of the barracking. It is expected the dental elinie, will very shortly be opened for operations. The nurse has arrived in Ohakune and is making preliminary preparations. Mr and Mrs Gordon Newlands have arrived home after an enjoyable trip to the South Island. At the close of the Borough Council meeting on Thursday, the Mayor announced that the Minister for Public Works (the' Hon. K. S. Williams) would visit Ohakune during this week. Mr T. O. Screen, of the Forestry Department, who will be in charge of the afforestation at Karioi, has taken up residence in that district. A number of mon is already employed fencing am! rabbiting, and it is antiepated that further labour will bo engaged shortly. FOOTBALL Tho Charity competition games in the. various grades were concluded on Saturday. In the senior division Raetihi defeated, Junction at Rochfort Park by 11 points to 3; United juniors defeated Raetihi by the substantial margin of 20 to 3; and in tho third grade Athletic went down to United by 6 to 3. Raetihi v. Junction Football fans generally were agreed that owing to the absence of three of its foremost players the Junction team would suffer a comparatively easy idjefeat in the final senior Charity Cup game against Raetihi at Rochfort Park; but although Raetihi was at full strength, it was only withn tho last few minutes that the necessary points were scored which gave them the victory.

The drizzling rain which fell during the morning had the effect of making the ground a trifle slippery, but otherwise the conditions were ideal for the game, and there was a good attendance of supporters of both teams. The game throughout was fairly fast, but frequent breaches of the rules—notably off-sidje play—made it somewhat uninteresting from a spectator’s point of view. Playhad not been .long in progress when Adams (Junction) kicked a penalty goal, and shortly before half-time 11. Pedersen was successful in doink likewise from almost the same position. For the greater part of the second gpell honours were fairly even, but towards the call of time Junction showed evident signs of want of training, and were frequently in difficulties. Tries were scored in quick succession by Packer aind Ward, the later being converted by Moore. The game thus ended in favour of Raetihi by 11 to 3. Mr W. Annison was referc|.
