WOMEN TEACHERS

ANNUAL CONFERENCE DIFFICULTY OF LARGE CLASSES [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 14. The annual conference of delegates of the New Zealand Women Teachers’ Association commenced to-idjay. Miss M. C. Edmed presiding. Miss Edmed said that classes were still too large and the staffs far too limited in practice, although in theory the staffing might satisfy those who had pen and paper. The decision to make apparatus for the primary schools, she held, would be totally inadequate. There were no Government supply stores, and she held that this was bad business. A remit was passed that in view of the large number of women teachers and of the special needs of girls in schools the time had come for the appointment of capable women to the inspectorate and administrative positions in the Department.
