RIFLE CLUB [ From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. ] There was a good attendance *at the Miniature Rifle Club rooms on Wednesday evening. While the competitors were not shooting they took part in various games. Following are the best marks: W. Watson 26 points Balioy 24, W. Daviidson 22, A. Watkins 20, Dennis 19. GOLF The official opening of the golf season took place on Wednesday afternoon in glorious weather and in the presence of a large number of enthusiasts. The chib has had two men working on the links which show a great improvement especially the greens. The ladies served afternoon tea and friendly games were played. Nine trophies have been promised for the coming reason by Messrs W, L. Agnew (captain). J. Lawson (sec), W. Watson, W. Carruthers and A. Lowe. A meeting of ladies was called and Mrs W. L. Agnew was elected secretary. A committee meeting was held on Thursday evening. Mr W. L. Agnew proposed that non-playing members should be admitted to join the club at a fee of 5/-. This-met with one dissenter, causing a heated discussion of one hour and a half, the meeting finally concluding that it would be necessary to call a general meeting next Thursday. PERSONAL NOTES Mr F. Bonnor (Kawhatau) has returned from Sydney. Mrs Failover (Wanganui) and Mrs Carroll are staying with their brother Mr A. Anderson. Mr and Mrs Hill (Auckland) are staying at Lodge Hill. Mrs A. Macdonald (Ohingaiti) has returned home.
