GENERAL NEWS. [ From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. ] The mounted troop recently in camp at Levin returned to Taihape on Friday ! evening with the much coveted cup !presented in 1904 by Mr. Norman Johnston. The Taihape troop, besides aninexing this cup for general parade, also 'won the following prizes: Open jump, IG. Moore: best troop horse, J. Moore 2; I section jumping. G. and J. Moore, A. Revell and R-oss 2.; wrestling on horsc- : back. Taihape team first. The troop 1 was under the command of Sergeant. J. McCulloch. The first of the series of the euchre parties under the auspices of the Church of England was held on Friday evening in the parish hall, when the building was comfortably filled. . The winners for the evening wore Mrs. BarI rowman and Mr. C. Harrington, and the consolation prizes went to Mrs. j A. C. Nicholson and Mr. F. Kreegher. The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of Mesdames Gam by, Mayor and Barrowman, The Taihape Amateur Cycling Club held a road race on Saturday afternoon. from the Gretna Hotel to the foot of Mataroa hill and back. The competitors were Gibson, Sexton, Bcnfell, Price, McCullum, Rehia, Treadwell, K. Anderson and Blakeway (Ohakune). The weather was ideal for racing and the road were in good order. The winner turned up in C. Bcnfell, off 3minutes, with Treadwell 2nd, Rehia 3rd, and McCullum 4th. SATURDAY’S RUGBY Junior match results: Mangaweka 23, Pirates nil; Hautapu 35, Utiku nil; Old Boys 24, Railway 11. Senior match: There was a large crowd and the weather was good. The result was Pirates 3. Hautapu 6, Mr Noble was referee. It was a keen game and Pirates had the best of it. Christensen and Leahy played a great game for Pirates and McDonell. Smith, W. McLennan and Bellis were the best of Ihe Hautapu men. Bennett won for Hautapu by kicking two goals in the last few minutes.
