[ From the “ Chronicle's ” Special Correspondent, j FOOTBALL On Wednesday afternoon Hunterville played Rata, at Rata, in a junior football competition match. Hunterville, winning the toss, elected to play with the wind. From the start Hunterville pressed hard and after about ten minutes Wai tore gave away a penalty from which D. Abel made three points. Hunterville 3, Rata 0. From kick-off the greens broke away hut the reds soon took pay back into green territory, and a knock-on spoilt a good chance of scoring. Two frees were given against rods and greens took play into reds’ twenty-five, and for a short time pressed hard, but were unable to get over. Reds took play back to greens’ twenty-five and Waitere obtained, and with a solo run gained a good hit of ground, but reds brought the ball right on to greens’ goal line, D’Ott scoring a good try about five yards .from the post. Abel failed to convert. —Hunterville 6, Rath 0. Contrary to expectations the reds held their own and had a bigger share of the game in the second half Lhan Rata had in the fir»t. After about 30 minutes had gone, Harre dropped a goal for greens.—Hunterville 6 Rata 4. This score put a lot of heart into the greens, but red were also determined to hold their own and defended well. With three minutes to go Rata scored a try wide out (by Waitere), O’Connor failing to convert. —Rata 7, Hunter' ville 6. Air J. Potaka was referee.
