TOWN BOARD [ From the “ Chronicle’s " Special Correspondent. ] Mr A. Milner presided, over a full attendance at the meeting of the Town Boand. The report of the engineer, Mr L. Mahoney, which was adopted read as follows: The plant at the pump station continues to work satisfactory, having pumped 660,000 gallons, of which the reservoir at present contains 20,000 gallons. Three lamps have been fitted to street lights at a cost of 7s 6d each. The Wiring Department, has installed a number of heating ponds in private houses. There has been an alteration in the lighting at the Post Office. Four power crossings have been erected over telegraph lines. There are still a few to be erected in the main street and this work will be undertaken as soon as possible. The settling tank has been completed. I wish to recommend that the Board extend its lines to the lower Kawhatau, where I am sure a fair load will be collected. As a result of the Board's decision all street lights are being cut off at midnight instead of being on all night.
