EMPIRE TRADE
DUTIES IN THE DOMINION DO THEY HAMPER SALES? Received April 28. 5.5 p in. XThe Times) LONDON, April 28. The Times, in the course of a leader on the annual meeting of the Association of British Chambers of Commerce, points out that the Association is considering a resolution drawing attention to the so-called damage to British trade owing to the increased eustoms duties of the Dominions, and declares that propaganda in favour of the sale of the Dominions’ products in Britain is stultified thereby. Nevertheless, in spite of the tacit assumption that tariffs are preventing exports, figures do not support this suggestion. Last year the Empire took 45.7 per Cent of the total British exports, compared with 37.2 per cent in 1913.
